It all started in 1909 when Kazimierz Monkiewicz began making his handmade sausages in Chelsea, MA. Now over 100 years later, Kayem Foods is a 4th generation family owned and operated company still headquartered in Chelsea, MA. Kayem is the largest processed meat company in New England specializing in natural casing and skinless franks, fully cooked and fresh sausage, dinner hams and deli meats. The company markets 13 national, regional and local brands including al fresco all natural, the #1 brand of chicken sausage in the U.S. and Kayem, the #1 brand of Franks in New England.

Kayem employs 600 people and has over 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space in two plants; our headquarters in Chelsea, MA and a second facility in Woburn, MA. The Chelsea plant is a state of the art facility with a continuous frankfurt operation and Purelink line. The Woburn plant produces fresh sausage plant and is the highest volume fresh sausage facility in New England.

Quality workmanship, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction have always been the hallmark of Kayem's success. The company was the first frankfurt manufacturer to seek ISO 9001 International Standards registration in 1995. In 2007, Kayem kicked off its continuous improvement platform, called META to ensure the company is equipped to meet the ever changing needs of its customers and the meat industry. Then in February 2016 both the Chelsea and Woburn plant were certified with an “AA” rating from GFSI.  The Global Standard for food safety, which we continue to maintain to date.

Today, Kayem operates plants with cutting edge technology, USDA and Global Food Safety Initiative  standards but we still retain our "Old World" philosophy and vision. For over a century, Kayem has been owned by the same family, employing many other families for multi-generations, still in its hometown of Chelsea and still manufacturing & delivering freshly made convenient, wholesome and delicious foods to its most valued customers. Some things are too good to change.
